French Apple Bread Pudding

 

 

  From an Eagle Brand recipe brochure, this is an easy bread pudding

  dessert made with applesauce and raisins.

 

 

      3 large        eggs

      1 can          Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk (14 ounces)

      1 jar          chunky applesauce  (23 ounces),

                        or use 2 1/2 to 3 cups chopped apples

  1 3/4 cups         hot water

    1/4 cup          melted butter

      1 teaspoon     ground cinnamon

      1 teaspoon     vanilla

      4 cups         French bread cubes

    1/2 cup          raisins

 

Preheat oven to 350°.  In a large bowl, beat eggs, add sweetened

condensed milk, applesauce or apples, water, melted butter, cinnamon,

and vanilla.  Stir in bread and raisins, moistening completely.  Turn

into a buttered 9-inch square baking dish.  Bake 1 hour or until a

knife inserted in center comes out clean.

 

Cool.  Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping or dessert sauce.

Cover and refrigerate leftovers.
